PLAY - Essential for a Fun, Healthy & Lasting Marriage

“All the world is made of faith, and trust, and pixie dust.”

- J.M. Barrie

This blog is all about sex. Well, sort of. Frolicking with your lover goes hand in hand with a healthy sex life. SEX will be the topic of our next blog. For now, let's have some tomfoolery.

We define it as: engaging in a fun, amusing, potentially spontaneous activity for the sake of pure enjoyment and recreation.

Related words: frisk, romp, caper, dalliance, relaxation, sport, delight, horseplay, merrymaking, rascality, and hilarity.

Here is where we start: We identify what is "fun" to the other person, and we stretch ourselves to enter their world. For example, Bruce loves sports. I have been known to join a co-ed softball or flag-football team. When the kids left for college, I lured Bruce in the kitchen to begin a cooking adventure with me. We now have a blast creating original nest recipes. We also look for things to do that we mutually enjoy, even if it's not at the top of our list. And then, there is the pillow fighting...

Here is a fun one. I decided to do an experiment. What if I just smiled at Bruce randomly and consciously throughout the day. Try it. It is awesome, sweet, and hilarious. Or, most recently I noticed that I had gotten lazy about my listening skills with my hubby, so I decided to play a game with myself. Every time he would want to connect, I would stop what I was doing and give him my full attention by listening with the same energy and thoughtfulness that I give to a person I have just met.

This is our favorite game:

Play with your favorite person. Flirt with your spouse. Life is short. Have some fun! Next blog? SEX.
