(Tracy) In 1985, Bruce was hired by the Kobrand Corporation. They are one of the wine industry’s leaders in supplying fine wine, champagne, and spirits to restaurants and wine shops across the country. His expertise was enhanced by a great education in the study of the grape. My man loves winsomely sharing that passion and knowledge with his family, friends, and business colleagues.
We love enjoying wine as we cook, break bread, or hang out with friends. What really floats our boats is seeing where the wine is made and meeting the people who make it. We have been happy to see that Texas has been stepping up its participation in the art of the vineyard. Here are some of our discoveries in Texas and beyond. Cheers!!
We heart Sloan Williams Winery in Grapevine.
TEXAS HILL COUNTRY
Can you believe more than 35 wineries are scattered throughout the Hill Country? They stretch from Austin to Fredericksburg and Lampasas to New Braunfels.
JOHNSON CITY, TX
Texas Hills Vineyard
Texas Hills Vineyard is in the Pedernales River Valley in the Texas Hill Country. "A perfect location for growing quality grapes, the intense Texas sun by day and the cooler hill country by nights."
We are fans of their Kick Butt Cabernet!
William Chris Vineyard
Next, we have Tracy's favorite Hill Country vineyard William Chris Vineyard, right outside of Johnson City in Hye, Texas. If you plan on visiting the wineries on US Highway 290 near Fredericksburg, definitely visit William Chris Vineyards.
Here, you drive up to a 100-year-old farmhouse. This vintage farmhouse is gently renovated into intimate tasting rooms. Be sure to walk through the home towards the back and into a fresh, large, open, state-of-the-art tasting room with an amazing view of the Hill Country. Their 5-wine tasting is $10.00.
This is a family owned winery and vineyard operations loyal to their 100% Texas grown fruit. They also have a lovely patio with live music and a food truck. Perhaps you will get a chance to meet the owners, Bill and Chris, too!
This is a family owned and operated vineyard specializing in Spanish and Rhone-style wines. It is located about 5 miles from William Chris and 17 miles east of Fredericksburg on highway 290 at 2916 Upper Albert Road in Stonewall. They have a lovely tasting room and patio to enjoy a glass of wine with live music. Their tasting is $12.00 for nine wines, and you get to keep your wine glass.
10587 East US Highway 290, Fredericksburg
You will pass a limestone bell tower and turn onto the gravel road winding your way up the gentle hill through rows of Chenin Blanc grapevines. Here you will find a picturesque, rustic villa with a charming clay tile roof. Welcome to Grapecreek!
One of the better known wineries in the Texas Hill Country is Becker. And, for good reason. The service at the tasting was exceptional, thanks to Ashley (pictured below). She was knowledgable, fun, and gave us more attention than any other vineyard we attended. Becker tries to keep the quality high and the prices down. We felt that Becker wines had the best bang for the buck.

You won't believe your in Texas when you see these views! They also have live music and dancing when the temperature is warm.
3101 Mount Sharp Road, Wimberley
We loved this modest little place. We picked up some delicious blackberry wine. However, they are known for estate and blended fresh olive oils, as well as infused olive oils and dipping oils. www.texasoiliveoil.com/bellavistacelers.htm
Wimberley Valley Winery
If you ever spend some time in our backyard, you'll probably notice a half-wine cask that we use as a table next to our lounge chairs. Well, we bought that from Wimberley Valley. They sell full and half casks.
Wimberley Valley also make some interesting fruit wines from cherry and blueberries. If you arrive on the right day, you may also see the llama strolling in the nearby field.
We always have to end our Hill Country adventure near Wimberley at the Dutchman Winery, 13308 FM 150 West, Driftwood, TX. It is a spectacular, Tuscan-style vineyard built in 2004 with award-winning wines.
We like to watch the sunset and have dinner next door at the incredible Italian restaurant - 512 894 3111
“Making good wine is a skill. Fine wine is an art. Indeed enjoying fine wine at the family table, surrounded by your loved ones and friends, was not just joy – it was one of the highest forms of the art of living.” – Robert Mondavi
Founded in 1972, this winery is known for their the development of California Merlot.
The Chimney Rock estate has a charming atmosphere with Dutch-style architecture. It is located in the Stags Leap District, home to what many say are the most sophisticated Cabernet Sauvignons produced on American soil. We had a lovely outdoor meal in the vineyard and were graced by the presence of the winemaker, Elizabeth Vianna. She was once a biology major on the pre-medical school track. But alas, she fell head over heals with wine and changed her course to attend the University of California in its renowned winemaking program.
We especially love their chardonnay!
Meadowood is one of the true luxury resorts in Napa Valley, on a private 250-acre estate. The rooms are private, freestanding abodes, each with a fireplace and living room. We had a blast dressing up in the required white attire and having the pros teach us croquet.
Come, come, good wine is a good familiar creature, if it be well used; exclaim no more against it.
